What we love

We’re always looking for small things that stand out in an email, things that inspire us and we hope inspire others as well.

In this particular email we were impressed by the way the Portland Center Stage logo was cleverly added to the header image. I noticed this wasn’t a coincidence, but that the logo does change from template to template and it always looks great. My first thought was: Google doodle!

Scrolling down, the rest of the template revealed a thoughtful design which perfectly showcases a classic play. The time-lapse video, comments from the audience, and call to action all work together to pull your eye through the email and entice you to see the show. Mobile? It’s there, too! Portland Center Stage caters to their mobile users by providing a streamlined email that removes certain images to reduce the amount of scrolling.

Try these techniques


Look for inspiration from others who are doing great things. Did Google inspire the clever logo/header? We don’t know; but it is a smart idea! Subscribe to newsletters from brands that you love, visit beautiful websites, and draw inspiration from them.

Mobile in mind

Focus on what is the best experience for mobile users. They are usually checking emails on-the-go, when there’s a minute to spare. Try getting their attention and luring them to your call to action. Numerous images are pretty, but long scrolling sessions prove less effective in getting the message across. Less (scrolling) is more!
